St. Clair Cemin was born and raised in Cruz Alta, Brazil. He briefly studied physics in San Paulo, then went to Paris to study at the École des Beaux Art ini 1974. Cemin arrived in New York in 1978, where he began producing drawings and prints. In the 1980s Cemin began experimenting with sculpture.
