Patricia Clark is currently a Poet-in-Residence and Professor in the English Department at Grand Valley State University. She received her first degree, a B.S. in Economics, from the University of Washington in Seattle, later going on to receive an M.F.A in English and Creative Writing from the University of Montana, Missoula, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Houston, Texas. She has been granted with the Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids, Michigan two years in a row, from 2005 to 2007. On her poetry, she states: "I would like a reader to take away a complex understanding of how woven emotion is with thinking and with seeing; I would like readers to delve deeply into the poems here, pondering complexity, ambiguity, and nuance and seeing the world in its multiplicities. People, too, I should add. How many views are there of a single person? To understand someone completely, or to near that state of understanding (how far do any of us ever get?), snapshots of many days, many moods would be necessary. I would like readers to relish language and feel precision, depth, and affection."
