Qian Xuan was a Chinese painter from Hu Zhou, China during the late Song and early Yuan dynasties. After failed attempts at gaining ground within the Chinese political system, he devoted his time and efforts to painting. His artistic motifs were strongly rooted in nature, often depicting the natural landscapes and wildlife; and also often were his stylistic hints in addressing more latent political issues. His work is said to be a delicate and balanced mix of the realism prominent during the Song Dynasty, and the more archaic Tang Dynasty styles of art.
