Kala Raksha's work represents an authentic duality that attempts to unite the traditional arts with the evolving art styles of new generations. Raksha is dedicated to preserving ancient cultural traditions, founding the "Kala Raksha Trust" in Kutch, India in 1993. The trust is a grassroots social enterprise that works to educate artisans and community members in the artistic traditions of embroidery, weaving and patch work, using locally-made products made only of natural fibers and, wherever possible, natural dyes. The artists are assured fair wages, and they sell a wide range of garments, accessories and home furnishings, all sold at fair trade prices.
