Artist Biography:
Artist Statement on work entitled "Practicing Food; Bean Jar":
"This piece is from a larger project exploring value structures through food, representations and regulatory systems. Written work by Paul Roberts on contemporary food systems in "The End of Food", David Harvey's discussion of economic value in "Reading Marx's Capital", along with Lice Giard on daily culinary traditions in :The Practice of everyday Life: Living and Cooking" were highly influential to this work. The negotiation and expression of value is created very intimately when tied to food. We become our food, blurring bodily boundaries the moment we feed ourselves and digestion begins. I intentionally present food in its complexity as an instance where rigid structures fail exquisitely, giving way to unpredictability and imagination." -Dulcee Boehm
