Artist Statement:


"'We are spinning a story of what it is to grow up. It's a complicated story and sometimes we try to take on the grand themes: anger, love, death, sensuality, and beauty.' -Sally Mann

As the oldest of seven children and an assistant at a daycare, I have noticed that adolescents emanate the urgency to grow up. At a certain point they begin exchanging their childhood innocence for the freedom and responsibility of adulthood. When this transpires the boundary between child and adult develops a unique vagueness. These obscurities inspired me to portray images of childlike behavior alongside adult counterparts to demonstrate this significant conversion. By juxtaposing these images, my goal is to convey the ambiguities of adolescence at a pivotal time in life." -Nakia L. Bole
