Artist Biography:
Lorelle Otis Thomas is a professor in the Department of Art and Design at Grand Valley State University. She received her Bachelor of Art in Art Education and her Master of Fine Art in Illustration from the Syracuse University in New York. Thomas has been nationally recognized for the creation of the game "MathAnimals", which helps children learn their multiplication tables. Lorelle Otic Thomas began her studies in graphic design, illustration, and painting at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. She then worked as a graphic designer for sixteen years in a variety of positions including art director in the Department of Education at Sea World, San Diego and senior designer and art director at University Publications, Eastern Michigan University. When she completed her graduate studies in 1990, she joined the faculty at Grand Valley State University where she coordinates the Graphic Design program in the School of Art & Design in addition to teaching graphic design, illustration, and design history.
