Artist Statement:
"As a photographer and artist I choose to live by the motto of -'make it work'. At the start of this semester I had been trying to force my initial concept of working with a commercial photography aesthetic and my fine art images together, two things that should seemingly have not gone together. Finally, I made the decision to listen to myself and let the concept come from the images that I was creating. The concept that came from my images is an exploration of light on ordinary materials and how that light changes how the viewer perceives them. My images were created based on subjects that I sculpted from materials found around my apartment. The different materials were photographed to see how the light played over them. I did this to see if the way the objects were photographed would change how the viewer sees it, something beautiful and extraordinary was created out of something ordinary. The subjects were sculpted organically and that is how I tried to light the materials as well, long exposures were used and the technique of painted light over the subjects to see if that had an influence on how they are perceived was used as well." -Brittney Dickinson
