Artist Biography:
Pegeen Vail was born on August 18, 1926, in Ouchy, Switzerland, the daughter of Peggy Guggenheim (after whom the collection in Italy is named) and the painter Laurence Vail. Her attraction to art was relevant at a young age, and she studied it in the United States at both the Lenox School in Massachusetts and the prestigious Finch Junior College in Manhattan, New York. Her personal issues, which included those of marriage, psychological, and existential, resulted in alcoholism and depression. On the brink of success as an artist, her depression led her to medicine abuse, which ultimately proved fatal.
