Artist Biography:
Vasily Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist who was accredited with painting the first modern abstract works. He was known as one of the great masters of modern art, as well as being the primary representative of "pure abstract painting", a style that dominated the first half of the twentieth century. He felt that painting "possessed the same power as music and that sign, line and color ought to correspond to the vibrations of the human soul."
