Everyone is being affected to some degree by the failing economy. Individuals from many different backgrounds are being faced with challenges in their lives.
My thesis project developed from my own experience as a student and the effects the economy has had on my college education. Jobs are increasingly hard to find, rent and tuition continue to rise, and money is tight. My images portray a personal look at others facing struggles of their won in this depressed economy.
I approached strangers asking to photograph them for my project and discuss with me how the economy is affecting them personally. Most were eager to share their concerns and frustrations.
The way in which I photographed them is important to the message I am trying to convey. The subjects' gaze, and a similar stance are visual elements in my work that group a cross-population of people together through their victimization by the current economy.
