Artist Biography:
Anthonisz Cornelis (c. 1505 - 1553) was a Dutch printmaker, cartographer and painter. In 1538 he painted the first complete and (relatively) accurate map of the city of Amsterdam commissioned as a gift for Emperor Charles V. His most famous woodcut is the Bird's Eye Map of Amsterdam from 1544, which was printed using 12 blocks. He also made many royal portraits and allegorical prints.
