Artist Biography:
"Our lives are inundated with products and packaging designed for maximum speed and convenience. I have been interested in addressing the nature of excess and waste through plastic, a material so regularly used and disposed of. With interest in sustainability and a consciousness for the preservation of the earth's natural resources, it is increasingly important for me as an artist to address some of these issues in my own work by taking responsibility for my personal material use and consumption.
Combining my interests in wearable jewelry with the recycle culture, I am able to use body adornment to give importance to and challenge common conceptions regarding mundane disposable objects. I have used playful and unexpected juxtapositions of material, form, and function to create visual interest. The prominent use of color, light, and scale commands attention. To further the preciousness of the pieces, I have created recognizable value by including traditionally appreciated sterling silver elements and incorporated found objects that function as gemstones and focal points."
