Luis Macias was born in Mexico in Guadalajara, where his father was the sculptor for the sacred art in the city. He became his father's apprentice when he was eight years old. At the age of fourteen he began to work on his own commissions. When he was sixteen he started to explore two dimensional art. He continues to work with sculpture and with two dimensional art.
