"The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans houses 755 beds, which are reserved for those who have served our country. The veterans are well cared for by doctors, nurses, and volunteers. They are entertained by a variety of arts, music, activities, and events. Although the efforts of staff supporting the residents is significant, the impact of their absence is profoundly noticed when their shift ends. The staff is able to go home with their families, leaving the residents behind. In spite of sharing a home with more than 700 other residents these former soldiers are for the most part alone.
