Artist Biography:
"For my senior thesis I did a rephotographic project of Empire, Leland, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. I chose these areas because before I moved to Empire we vacationed there, and I was familiar with them. Most of my pictures were loaned to me by the Empire Historical Museum. Many of them were postcards dated between 1911 and 1959. The pictures of Leland and the Sleeping Bear Dunes are from my mother's family archive. With pictures in hand, I scouted out each location and tried to stand in the same position as the photographer before me. To help me locate the correct spot, I looked for things that were shown in the original picture, such as land forms, houses, and details of the buildings. If the building was completely new, I looked for the larger environment. It was much harder finding the right position than I had anticipated."–Sara Rademacher
