Artist Biography:
Fernand Toussaint, the celebrated Belgian painter of still lifes and figurative subjects, was born in Brussels in 1873. At the age of fifteen he entered the Academy of Fine Arts, Brussels, where he was taught by several proficient and prestigious artists, and under whom he began to formulate his own individual style by combining the elegance and fine draftsmanship with impressionistic painting. In 1929, the art critic Mario de Marchi wrote "Le maitre incontesté de la grâce et du charme de la femme" , which translates to "Toussaint is the undisputed master at capturing the grace and charm of women".
