Peter Callas is a pioneer in the Australian film scene for his use of the electronic image. He uses a wide variety of digital and electronic media to create films that he calls "culture portraits." Over the years he has spent time working in places such as Papua New Guinea, Japan, the United States, Germany, Brazil, Italy, and India, as well as Australia. Recurring themes in his work are issues of multicultural and transcultural identity as well as reanimating history.
