Janos Bittenbinder is from Transylvania, a mythical region which a century ago was still officially a part of Hungary. After the First World War it was annexed by Romania to be subjected to the communist regime in 1945. Bittenbinder paints what captivates him, what he considers aesthetically pleasing. Attracted by unfamiliar countries, colorful peoples, authentic cultures, and untouched landscapes, he actively goes out to look for unknown places, even though they may be remote. To him, painting is like a process of fermentation; it involves lengthy periods of reflection on personal experiences...His art reveals a quest for unexplored cultural identity and sublime landscape imagery.
