Arijs Skride aimed to achieve specific moods through the color and texture of his landscapes, and was inspired by the Latvian countryside where he lived. For Skride, panting was a way to connect with nature and create inner-growth. He was a favorite pupil of Latvian painter and founder of the Latvian Academy of Arts, Vilhelms Purvitis. He graduated from the academy in 1932, achieving Masterclass of Landscape Painting.
