Eleanor Van Haitsma attended both the Washington D.C. School of Art and the Indiana University, where he completed his graduate work in watercolor painting, silversmithing and jewelry design. In the mid-1950s, Van Haitsma founded the art department at Hope College in Holland Michigan, where she taught for many years.
