Michael Schofield, landscape painter and print maker, was born in Orlando, Florida in 1947, and moved with his family to Oakland, California that same year. Growing up he had aspirations of playing pro-baseball, though successfully followed many art classes in high school. After high school he joined the military, after which he went to art school in Nashville, Tennessee. Schofield believes that art is fundamentally communication. According to him, he chooses to create more traditional landscapes because it is with this imagery that most people relate. It is imagery that evokes a memory and therefore a feeling, allowing artist and audience to experience a connection through each piece.
