During an inspirational voyage to Bern, Switzerland in 1977 (on which he based his "Bern Series" of paintings), Robert Natkin visited the Paul Klee Foundation. Both a museum and research center, the foundation not only displays Klee’s work, but also allows visitors access to thousands of drawings and paintings. In an article on Robert Natkin, Leda Natkin Nelis says on his work, "Styles change. Hemlines rise and fall. But great art transcends time."
